Father, thank you for the discipline I received from You today through reading Matt.6:2-4.
I sold my reward short. I would much rather be rewarded by You than by others. Help me to overcome this lifelong need for the praise of others. You are the only one I need to praise me. You alone are the one from whom I should seek approval.
Father, there is so much for me to learn, so many new things I experience every day that make me aware of how much I need your Spirit to guide me and keep me on track.
Forgive me when I mess up and sin. When I do something good, help me not to seek praise and approval from others, but to remember that my reward is much greater when I look to you alone as my source of praise and approval.
"Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their rew ard in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
