Wisdom and understanding

Col. 1:9-10 9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. Dear God, I pray that you will also give me complete knowledge of your will, and spiritual wisdom and understanding. There are things I don't understand. It's so simple if I just go by what Jesus said and did, and pattern my life and worship after him. But then it starts getting complicated as doctrines come up that I don't know if they're right or wrong. If I don't find the answer in your Word, I think it must not be important, but are things like instrumental music important? I just don't know. That's one of the bigger things that divide churches, but there are smaller things, too, like the kind of songbook used or what design is put on a building that people argue and divide over. I d on't understand. I want to worship you with all my heart. I don't care if the songs in the songbook are contemporary or 200 year old hymns. It's all praise to you. I don't care if it's on a screen or in a book. And at this point in my journey, it doesn't bother me if there are instruments or not. Our elders have said we are to sing without instruments when in assembly. Although I do not think it's wrong, that's what I should do as they are our shepherds and are supposed to be looking out for our souls. If I am wrong, please teach me, and show me what's right. I want a simple faith. It was simple with Jesus. It was simple with the early Christians. I want to be like them. I want to honor and please God, and produce good fruit.
