Show me, O God, how to hate
This wicked world and all its ways,
To hate this life wrapped up in things,
In thoughts that throw us far from you.
Destroy what cannot remain forever,
That I might gain eternal blessing,
Release desires and old resentments,
For cleansing the heart grown hard by sin.
Show me, O Father, how to love
All heavenly truths that lighten my burden;
Let die this seed, enrich the soil,
To grow in Christ from the ground of pain.
Of all the prayers that I could pray,
Requests that I could make,
I’d ask one thing: my dying day
At Jesus’ feet to wake.
What power in Jesus’ words! They shake our world, and challenge our most cherished beliefs. They show our self-reliance to be a sham.
I want to find a place in my heart for his words, O God. Let them penetrate and transform. Let them bring to me the Spirit of truth.
I hear and respond, O Lord. In my hearing and responding, be my Father. We honor the Son, whose day Abraham saw, and we honor the Father, who sent us the Son.
We never want to see death, our Father. So help us to obey the Lord Jesus, whom none can prove guilty of sin.
Use the truth to free us so that we may be really free. As your children, we desire to remain with you forever.
In the end, there’s only you and me,
For all the love that flowed endlessly
Among my closest friends and family,
Standing on the sands of a timeless sea.
Gifts and gladness filled my days and years,
You gave me strength to overcome my fears,
You taught me through the trials and bitter tears,
With faith that lasts until the darkness clears.
Final words are hard to choose and say,
Knowing there’ll not be another day,
With awe I take the very last step this way,
To live a life beyond this mortal clay.
What yet can be, for all man lost and cried,
A place to rest, where peace and joy abide;
You’ve walked with me, always by my side,
Go with me now to cross the great divide.
Knowledge and wisdom are yours, omniscient God,
Our tongues confess that you know what you’re doing,
We are but stumblers in the present world,
And for the world to come, but ignorant brutes.
Never has anyone pierced the veil of death
To tell upon return what lies beyond,
No soul has journeyed there and back again,
None can teach on how win over death.
But Jesus can! Our Lord and Savior lives,
Was raised from the tomb to reign forever more,
Reveals the way, will take the saints to heaven,
He freely shares the knowledge of truth with all.
With all who will hear! With all the faithful seekers!
And such I’d be! — Make me, O Lord, to know
The gospel of Christ, the precious saving news —
This wisdom from above that sweeps beyond!
What wisdom for salvation by faith in Christ!
