Wisdom beckons each new day,
The rising sun enlightens;
If only knowledge held its sway
For when the darkness threatens.
Each morning calls to shine anew,
With fresh and vibrant colors,
To ponder life in changing hue,
And all of God’s vast wonders.
Creator God, with power alive,
Shine on us with your mercy;
May we in light of blessing thrive
And praise your Name right early.
Give me grace, O Lord,
to bear the burden of the day.
Give me peace, O King,
to pass to sufferers in the way.
Give me light, O God,
to see the path that I must tread.
Give me life, O Father,
from him who’s risen from the dead.
Give me love, O Sovereign,
such as on earth I’ve never known.
Give me hope, O Lamb,
of righteous fruit that I have sown.
Give me faith, O Faithful,
that wavers not when I am tried.
Give me word, O Lord,
that you with me will ever abide.
The days are dark, the time of the devil;
But the Light will break, the Lord descend,
The blessed truth will blind the unrighteous
And lead the saints to live with God —
Oh, come, Lord Jesus — call us home —
We groan in spirit, the grim existence
On earth is not for us, your people!
Your strength sustain our way, O God —
Your mercy be ours for many days.
Doubt is darkness — I would walk in light —
Even the children know the blinding fright
Of blackness — But adults learn to love the shadow —
Here reign both open shame and bitterest sorrow.
To you, O Lord, the God of splendor and glory,
I turn — as face to sun, to feel your very
Presence and power — no cloud to cast a gloom
Upon you — filling even an empty tomb.
Father, just as the gentle rain dampens the noise, let your kindness that descends from heaven suppress the world’s temptations and the strivings of the flesh.
As the light of day brightens the sky, let the knowledge of you and your benefits cheer our souls.
The wind makes us feel the air we cannot see. May your Spirit bring to us the comprehension of your love.
